We Need to Start Rationing Health Care
WE need death panels. For Op-Ed, follow @nytopinion and to hear from the editorial page editor, Andrew Rosenthal, follow @andyrNYT. Well, maybe not death panels, exactly, but unless we start allocating health care resources more prudently — rationing, by its proper name — the exploding cost of Medicare will swamp the federal budget. But in the pantheon of toxic issues — the famous “third rails” of American politics — none stands taller than overtly acknowledging that elderly Americans are not entitled to every...
Paris: 2013 Kia Pro_cee'd three-door proceeds to impress [w/video]
Filed under: Budget, Europe, Videos, Paris Motor Show, Hatchback, Kia

Sexy as MPVs are, the new Carens wasn't the only world premiere happening on the Kia stand at today's Paris Motor Show. Here, we see the new three-door Pro_cee'd hatchback - a sharp-looking car that shares many of its underpinnings with the Hyundai i30 three-door that also took the stage at the Paris expo.
Aside from the three-door body style, the Pro_cee'd doesn't differ too much from the five-door Cee'd that bowed in Geneva earlier this year. That means buyers will be treated to a host of powertrain options, in both gasoline and diesel variants, ranging from 89 to 133 horsepower, mated to six-speed manual, automatic and even one dual-clutch transmission.
But Kia is hoping the Pro_cee'd will win over buyers who want something stylish above all. Peter Schreyer, Kia's Chief Design Officer, stated that "You know from a single glance that this is a car you want to drive, not just own." If you're of like mind, have a glance below for the full details and a quick video.

What does a fighter look like? (PHOTOS)
I've often heard the phrase, "He/she doesn't look like a fighter!" This comes up especially before women's fights, when Ronda Rousey's cover girl looks are cited as a reason to be shocked that she can rip your arm off. I hear it about Georges St-Pierre, who could easily find another career on a runway. UFC president Dana White brought it up recently when he criticized Roy Nelson's mullet, beard and belly.
But the thing about MMA is that outside making weight the day before a fight and passing a ton of medical tests, there are no physical requirements to step in a cage. While fighters look like this:

They also look like this:
They come in sizes large:
and small:

They are from all over the world and represent every color in the rainbow.

And yes, Dana, sometimes they even look like this.

There is no one way to look, act or sound like a fighter. The diversity within mixed martial arts is something to be celebrated, not criticized.

Kickstarter Brings It All Back Home
Kickstarter is a machine to build dreams. Whether it's funding the publication of a novel, production of a movie, or the manufacture of, say, a little bike light, the site has proven time and time again that ideas - dreams, let's say - cannot be deferred. Now the company is at a crossroads. Because it is such a popular platform and because so many blockbuster projects - the Pebble smart watch, the Ouya - have gotten funded and funded quite impressively, the rest of the world now thinks Kickstarter is the greatest pre-order engine ever.
Report: Infiniti registers highest emotional attachment among car brands
Filed under: Car Buying, Technology, Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, Infotainment

Do you love your car? Like, really love your car? How about your iPhone? According to Forbes, a group called New Media Metrics has a way to quantify just how much you adore your devices, and how that emotional connection determines your purchasing behavior.
The metric is called Leveraging Emotional Attachment for Profit, or LEAP, and just like it sounds, it measures how much we love products. That affection will likely lead to purchase to fill that attachment. The LEAP index began in 2010, and for the first two year the iPod topped the list, only to be unseated by the iPhone this year. Tech is a key factor as these devices have become extensions of ourselves.
The top automaker on this list, and ranked third overall, is the Infiniti brand. Its high ranking speaks to the significance of technology in the LEAP index. While many automakers offer a wealth of in-car tech, for Infiniti, it's a defining characteristic. Features like the around-view monitor and real-time traffic and weather updates have become key selling points for the Japanese luxury brand.
The next automaker on the list is Cadillac, at the sixth spot, followed followed by BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover in spots 13 through 16, respectfully. Given Cadillac's lead over the tech-heavy German automakers it will be interesting to see how the rollout of Cadillac's CUE-equipped vehicles affects its rankings in the years to come. Check out the rest of this list and see where your favorite brands stack up below.

Video: Ten original Silver Arrows assemble at the 2012 Goodwood Revival
Filed under: Classics, Videos, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, UK, Racing

The Earl of March, the man responsible for the Goodwood Revival, said he's been trying to get all of the Silver Arrows race cars - those of Auto Union, now Audi Tradition, and Mercedes-Benz - to the event for 20 years. This year, the stars aligned. 2012 marked the 75th anniversary of the Silver Arrows arriving in the UK, and there have never been as many of the instantly recognizable winners in one place at the same time. Ten of them, to be specific.
They weren't just there to sit in "the box," either, with drivers like Jackie Stewart, Jochen Mass and Karl Wendlinger throwing them around the Goodwood Circuit. For all of their Wagnerian pre-war thunder,at least one of them was apparently kinder than it sounded: Mass compared the handling of the Mercedes W25, with its over 400-horsepower 4.3-liter inline eight-cylinder, to a Volkswagen Beetle.
For more commentary and a great look at the retro style of the Goodwood Revival, check out the video posted below.

Knockout of the week: Dan Henderson introduces Wanderlei Silva to his fist
For the Knockout of the Week, we jump into the DeLorean and head back to 2007 for Dan Henderson's last Pride fight. Here, he is fighting fellow Pride star Wanderlei Silva, and shows the "Axe Murderer" just what the H-Bomb looks like.
When the UFC swallowed up Pride, it took many of its fighters and its fight footage, but left behind its pageantry. Example one: the confetti that came down at the end of Henderson's win. What do we need to do to bring confetti back? It will add an air of festivity that is sorely missing from the end of fight nights.
What's not missing from the UFC is Henderson hitting people in the head really hard. He'll get another chance to show off that H-Bomb on Sept. 1 against Jon Jones. Is he the guy who can stop Jones? Tell us in the comments, on Twitter or on Facebook.
Europe approves Universal - EMI merger, cements the dominance of the 'big three'
The European Union has signed off on Universal's $1.9 billion purchase of EMI music, provided that it sells off two-thirds of the fallen giant's assets to comply with competition regulations. The most notable jewel on the auction block is label Parlophone, home of the early Beatles records, Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Kylie. Chiefs added the conditions in the hope of preventing the new mega-corporation from gaining too much market share, but given that Sony (which bought EMI's publishing arm) and Warner Music are its only real competitors -- it's sealed the trio as the only guests at the top table of the music industry, problematic for anyone looking to found an iTunes or Spotify rival and doesn't fancy playing by their rules.
